norwegian rosemaling inspiration

Norwegian rosemaling is the name of a form of decorative folk art that originated in the rural valleys of Norway in the 1700s. There are no actual roses painted but mostly decorative scrolls based on fantasy or imaginary flowers. First appearing in Norway's stave churches, the rustic art was later used to decorate ceilings, walls, furniture, and wooden household items used in the Norwegian rural homes. Several different styles of rosemaling exist, each named for the region in which it originated.

Inspired by these floral ornementations, here is my interpretation of the Norwegian Rosemaling style. I tried to make my own design on big black letters or numbers. Of course, I am not as experimented than those Norwegian grandmothers who has been Rosemaling for many years but, I am quite happy with the result.

I have also launched these personalized numerical prints last week.
You pick a number than I add your own text at the bottom. I love the texture on the numbers. It looks like an old chalkboard. And I've also made a version with Rosemaling style.
As you can see, I have a typographic kick these days!
